Effective Communication
The person I find to be an effective communicator is one of supervisors, Jamee Thrush. She speaks honestly and clearly so her message can be understood. She uses descriptive language, a little humor, and presents numerous examples so everyone understands her. You can tell how she feels about a topic by observing her body language. She always exhibits a tremendous amount of confidence. She also has a way of validating the feelings of who ever she is with. She listens to what is being said to her, but then she restates it so she demonstrates understanding of the message. She asks others a lot of questions and she encourages questions to be asked. As I gain more experience with public speaking, I hope develop the self confidence Jamee Thrush has.

Christina,
ReplyDeleteThough I know that restating what you hear in a conversation is important, I often forget that tiny bit of information when I am communicating with others. I definitely want to work on that throughout this course. I consider myself pretty good at reading body language and can usually tell when the person with whom I am speaking and I are not on the same page. I can redirect the conversation or ask questions to see where what we need to do to get on the same page--or agree to disagree, which happens. I think it is important to be able to read body language.
It sounds like Jamee is self-confident--I would like to someday be self-confident myself.
